, even firefighters had to back off. that fire sent up a giant plume of black smoke. a viewer sent us these photos of the flames shooting through the roof of c&h enterprises in fremont. now, they were taken from a business just across the way on boggs terrace. cbs 5 reporter mark sayre is there, and the firefight is still going on. mark? >> reporter: and ken, investigators plan to return here in the morning to try to pinpoint the exact cause of this fire, which could be seen throughout fremont. tonight, the fire is still smoldering c&h enterprises building. fire officials say a grinding operation involving metal shavings was underway at the time the fire broke out. employees ran for safety. >> jay came running into the office. i could see the smoke billowing over the roof to the front, and he said, call 911, we have a fire! and it just started getting worse after that. >> did everyone get out? >> everyone got out and everybody is safe. >> reporter: the first 911 calls came in around 1:45 this afternoon and the fire quickly went to three alarms. since this is a commercial building with

. police officials talked about programs they are using to fight crime. but a gunfight in the same neighborhood the previous night did not come up at the meeting. >> they are rumors that are being held right now where people in that particular beat can talk to the officers about specific crime problems that are happening there so we want to address that because not everybody here wants to hear about that shooting, okay? >> mayor quan said oakland needs more police officers and more jobs for young people. >>> a missing california couple in the sierra have been found. they have been missing since last week's storm after they got stuck in the snow off highway 88 in alpine county. roderick clifton and his girlfriend paula lane were last seen at a 7-eleven in citrus heights before leaving for nevada. lane was found by her brother last night walking outside of a car on the highway but the alpine sheriff's department says clifton was found dead. it appears paula went to look for roderick after he never returned from trying to get help. >> they might have been sightseeing and got stuck in

deck of the bay bridge it's blocked off because of the accident. use 1st instead. the good news it's the noncommute direction so hopefully traffic won't be too busy on the lower deck of the bay bridge at the skyway. we are taking a live look at the area there off the freeway. traffic extra volume on that westbound side coming off the upper deck of the bay bridge. no metering lights though as you work your way towards the toll plaza. elsewhere, if you are trying to take bart or ace, everything is right on time. caltrain, ferries looking good. muni no major delays yet so because of that accident, the outbound treasure island bus may be affected. probably they will reroute the first as well because of the essex street ramp being blocked. westbound 580 at airway looks like an accident stuck in lanes with a bit of a backup slow out. altamont pass better once you hit 680. east 580 north greenville to north flynn roadwork should be there until 11:00. so expect delays. that's a look at traffic. here's lawrence. >> all right, gianna. i know you're going to be disappointed but no rain around

. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran is by folsom and 2nd and joins us live in the city with more. i guess they got it capped, but it was really something about a half hour ago or so, right? >> reporter: that's exactly right, frank. the new concern now is actually structural safety. i want to show you, they blocked off the roads in this area. that is essex off of folsom here and they say they're going to block all four lanes right there because they want to sort of assess the damage of what happened. but we want to show you some video that we shot earlier. you can get a look at that gushing water at least 40 feet high is what we're told. and about 1,000 -- tens of thousands of gallons of water that had come out of that break. now, from what we could see, that car knocked the hydrant completely out. we heard reports this started just before 4 a.m. this morning. san francisco police told us officers were trying to pull over this car at 4th and howard for a minor traffic vial violation. the driver fled and hit the hydrant. they took the driver into custody. we are unsure if the driver sustain

to send a message, done to facilitate the beating and shooting is unclear. >> those suspects used various aliases including pocahontas, snow and killer. >>> politics isn't the only battle governor jerry brown is fighting. the 70-year-old is being treated for prostate cancer. cbs 5 reporter elissa harrington is at ucsf this morning and that's where the governor is undergoing radiation treatment. good morning. >> reporter: for the next month, governor brown will receive daily treatments here at ucsf. they are supposed to be painless and last about 10 minutes. governor brown's office announced yesterday that he has early stage prostate cancer. they say it has not spread and has a high cure rate. the 74-year-old governor will keep up his full work during his treatment and doctors say there won't be any serious side effects. this is the governor's second bout with cancer since taking office in 2011. last year he had a procedure to remove skin cancer from his nose. brown is in good shape of and he called out the governor of new jersey, chris christie, back in august after getting slammed at the
